STATUS: Non-Permanent Term (up to 24 months)

POSITIONS: Up to 3 positions available

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week; shift work required

PAY RATE: Start Rate: $31.07 per hour (2025 start rate – first 2080 hours threshold); Job Rate: $34.52 per hour (2025 job rate – after 2080 hours threshold successfully met)


Lethbridge Transit has a career-building opportunity for qualified individuals interested in becoming a Transit Fixed Route Operator. This is a non-permanent term position extending up to 24 months, with potential opportunities to transition into a permanent role in the future. The Transit Fixed Route Operator position, under the general leadership and guidance of the Transit Workforce Manager, is responsible for ensuring transit service is consistently delivered in a safe, efficient manner with a deliberate focus on customer service excellence.


In this role, you will:

  • Operate assigned buses in a safe, efficient and customer-focused manner.
  • Follow all safety and traffic rules while strictly adhering to time schedules.
  • Perform fare collection using an electronic fare collection system.
  • Ensure customers are treated with kindness, dignity, and respect.
  • Carry out job duties to support a safe, healthy, supportive, and productive work environment.
  • Work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Report to work reliably and punctually.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid a class 1, class 2 or class 2 MELT license with a Q endorsement, or the ability to successfully obtain Q endorsement is required.
  • Demonstrated experience operating and maneuvering large or commercial vehicles in a professional setting is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a municipal transit department is an asset.
  • Strong commitment to providing exceptional customer service with professionalism and care.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive, safe, and efficient work environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues and the public.
  • Excellent decision making and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and make sound judgements.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and solution-oriented with a strong commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work independently or contribute effectively to a team environment.
  • Physical strength and dexterity to perform job duties.
  • Ability to work shift work including evenings and weekends.

  • All successful applicants under consideration will also be required to successfully complete and pass a Criminal Record Check through Lethbridge Regional Police Service.
