The Parks & Cemeteries department – Cemeteries section – is accepting applications for up to two (2) seasonal term Labourer positions.

STATUS: Seasonal Term  

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week, night and weekend work as assigned

PAY RATE: $23.63 per hour

 

In this role, you will: as a valued part of our amazing team, get to be involved in a variety of duties.  Under the direction of our Foreperson or Coordinator, your duties will include (but are not limited to): mowing, weed whipping, ground levelling, watering, planting flowers, weeding flower beds, raking, sweeping, shoveling, pressure washing, spring cleanup, general cleanup, and any other related Parks & Cemeteries maintenance functions. With such a variety of tasks you certainly won’t be bored!

 

This is a great entry level position if working in public service (outside in nature!) is something that excites you!

 

What You Bring to the Table

Qualifications & Experience:

·         Must have completed a high school diploma or equivalent 

·         A valid class 5 license is required, and a Drivers Abstract that is satisfactory to the City of Lethbridge

·         Must have the ability to work night and weekend shifts as assigned

·         Preference will be given to those who have previous related experience in a Park or Cemetery environment, or outside labour setting

·         Committed to earning the trust, respect, and confidence of the community by reflecting exemplary public service

·         Have the work ethic, physical ability, stamina to perform manual labour tasks for extended periods of time

·         Rain or shine (or wind), you can work under varying weather conditions

·         Tactful, diplomatic and working with limited supervision is natural for you

·         Results-oriented team member who always demonstrates professionalism

·         Strong communication skills, including the ability to carry out duties based on written and oral instructions

If you are not currently an employee of the City of Lethbridge, at the time an offer of employment is to be provided, as a condition of employment, you will be responsible for providing a copy of a five-year Commercial OR Non-Commercial Driver’s Abstract. The Driver’s Abstract must be obtained within 30 calendar days of the offer date, and the cost of obtaining the Abstract will be the responsibility of the applicant. If you do not submit an Abstract, or the Abstract shows 6 or more demerits or includes any of the unacceptable driving record items listed below, your offer of employment may be rescinded. The City of Lethbridge reserves the right to determine what is a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract.

An unacceptable driving record includes, but is not limited to: 

• A record of any suspension of Operator’s License within the preceding three years which is related to a driving offence. 

• An overall driving history that reflects poor driving behavior, will be determined at the discretion of the City. 

• Within the preceding three years any Criminal Code or Provincial driving conviction including: 

a. Impaired Driving related offence 

b. Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle 

c. Criminal Flight from a Peace Officer 

d. Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident 

e. Drive while Disqualified/Prohibited 

f. Careless Driving
