Overview
Recreation and culture services are important and essential to a thriving community, contributing to the health and wellbeing of our citizens, and our facilities, spaces, programs and events are also important drivers of economic activity. The Recreation and Culture department serves as a facilitator in ensuring the provision of sport, recreation and culture services to the community of Lethbridge through direct and/or indirect delivery with various community partnerships.
The Recreation and Culture Department is accepting applications for up to ten (10) seasonal term employees for the position of Recreation & Culture Caretaker. These positions will be primarily responsible for carrying out custodial/maintenance duties at facilities located in our premiere picnic shelters and/or arena facilities.

STATUS: Seasonal
HOURS OF WORK: 0-40 hours per week; shiftwork required including days, evenings, and weekends.
PAY RATE: $32.43 per hour
POSITIONS: Up to 10 positions available
In this role, you will:
- Primarily be responsible for the general caretaking of various arenas and city picnic shelters.
- Supervise and address needs of renters and user groups.
- Complete caretaking responsibilities including daily cleaning of picnic areas, kitchen spaces, BBQs, floors, bathrooms, showers, lobbies, gathering spaces, and bleacher areas.
- Perform minor repair tasks such as painting, changing lights, and monitoring general building safety.
- Set up and monitor arena bookings and picnic shelters.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Successful candidates may also work at other various locations, including Legacy Pavilion, the Yates, the Fritz Sick Centre or City Hall, if required.
Qualifications & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent GED.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Current First Aid and WHMIS certifications.
- Prior custodial experience; preference will be given to individuals with experience working in large settings with multiple facilities.
- Working knowledge of various types of cleaning equipment including auto scrubbers, pressure washers, and small hand tools.
- General smart phone and computer skills.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Keen ability to detect and assess hazards.
- Strong work ethics, with high standards for cleanliness.
- Good communication and coordination skills to work with other City crews, departments, and the general public.

An unacceptable driving record includes, but is not limited to:
- A record of any suspension of Operator’s License within the preceding three years which is related to a driving offence.
- An overall driving history that reflects poor driving behavior, will be determined at the discretion of the City.
- Within the preceding three years any Criminal Code or Provincial driving conviction including:
- Impaired Driving related offence
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Criminal Flight from a Peace Officer
- Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident
- Drive while Disqualified/Prohibited
- Careless Driving
