Overview

Lethbridge Transit has an exciting career opportunity to work in our Service Department. We are currently seeking applications for one (1) Service Person. This position is responsible for a variety of work assignments including the servicing and cleaning of buses, Transit bus change offs and handling cash collected from transit fares. This position requires physical strength and dexterity to perform manual tasks and the lifting of heavy objects.

STATUS: Full Time Permanent

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week; shift work required

PAY RATE: $29.77 per hour (Start Rate – Completion of 2080 hours, plus applicable shift premiums)

                 $33.08 per hour (Job Rate – after successful completion of 2080 hours, plus applicable shift premiums)

SHIFT PREMIUM: $1.50 per hour when working any shift commencing at 2:00 PM or later.


In this role, you will:

  • Fuel all Transit fleet buses.
  • Clean the interior of the transit buses including sweeping and cleaning of floors, removal of garbage, disinfection of surfaces, etc.
  • Perform minor bus inspections such as monitoring fluid levels (engine oil, coolant, power steering, windshield washer levels, transmission, battery fluid levels, etc.)
  • Perform weekly minor checks such as tire pressure and battery connections.
  • Remove and install fare box vaults and maintain service and inventory records.
  • Wash the exterior of the bus using the automatic bus wash.
  • Line up buses in “good to go” rows for next day dispatching.
  • Perform minor repairs such as fixing headlights, changing bulbs, repairing passenger seating, etc.
  • Perform bus change offs and attend road service calls as needed.
  • Drive the transit and other bus fleets in a safe and reliable manner in the service and maintenance facility areas.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED is required.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license with a Q endorsement (airbrake) is required.
  • Prior experience in a commercial cleaning or servicing environment with the ability to perform minor mechanical repairs.
  • Knowledge of transit bus service operations, including transit facility operations
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficient communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Willingness and aptitude to learn new technology.

Additional Information:

  • Shift sign-ups are determined by seniority, and assignment to a compressed workweek schedule is not guaranteed.
  • Weekday shifts are scheduled in the evenings from Monday to Friday, while weekend shifts include both morning and evening options selected by seniority.
  • Applicants under consideration will be required to successfully pass a Police Information Check as a condition of employment.

  • Within the preceding three years any Criminal Code or Provincial driving conviction including:
  1. Impaired Driving related offence
  2. Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  3. Criminal Flight from a Peace Officer
  4. Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident
  5. Drive while Disqualified/Prohibited
  6. Careless Driving
