STATUS: Full Time, Seasonal
HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week
PAY RATE: $23.63 per hour
In this role, you will: under the direction of the Traffic and Signage Coordinator, this position is part of the Crosswalk Painting Crew responsible for installing roadway markings such as crosswalks, stop bars, and directional arrows throughout the city. The work is completed on active roadways and intersections and requires setting up temporary traffic controls to safely complete painting operations.
Responsibilities include assisting with minor repairs and maintenance on crosswalk painting equipment, sweeping road surfaces prior to painting, measuring and marking out new lines, and assisting with the application of roadway markings. The role also involves watching traffic hazards and helping guide or direct traffic through tight or congested work areas when required.
This position may also assist with special events throughout the city, including setting up barricades, signs, cones, and temporary no-parking zones

· You have the ability to work in high temperatures
· You are able to safely work in live traffic environments while following traffic control procedures
· You are able to lift and carry up to 50lbs (paint pails, cones, signs, and traffic control equipment)
· You can carry out duties based on written or oral instruction
· You are able to work shifts and weekends assigned
· You are able to work early morning shifts from 5:00 AM – 1:00 PM during the summer months
· Rain or shine (or wind), you are able to work under varying weather conditions
· You are tactful, diplomatic and working with limited supervision is a piece of cake for you
· You are a results-oriented team member who always demonstrates professionalism
· You can successfully communicate with your team
Qualifications & Experience:
· Must have completed a high school diploma or equivalent
· A valid class 5 license is required, and a Drivers Abstract that is satisfactory to the City of Lethbridge
· Preference will be given to candidates who have previous experience working on roads or traffic projects

If you are not currently a City of Lethbridge employee, at the time an offer of employment is provided, you will be responsible for providing a copy of a five-year Commercial OR Non-Commercial Driver’s Abstract. The Driver’s Abstract is to be obtained within 30 calendar days of the date of offer and applicants will be responsible for the cost of obtaining the Abstract. If you do not submit an Abstract, or the Abstract shows 6 or more demerits or includes any of the unacceptable driving items listed below, your offer of employment may be rescinded. The City of Lethbridge reserves the right to determine what is a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract.
An unacceptable driving record includes, but is not limited to:
• A record of any suspension of Operator’s License within the preceding three years which is related to a driving offence.
• An overall driving history that reflects poor driving behavior, will be determined at the discretion of the City.
• Within the preceding three years any Criminal Code or Provincial driving conviction including:
a. Impaired Driving related offence
b. Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
c. Criminal Flight from a Peace Officer
d. Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident
e. Drive while Disqualified/Prohibited
f. Careless Driving
If you are a current City of Lethbridge employee, depending on the circumstances of your current position, you may also be required to provide a five-year Commercial OR Non-Commercial Driver’s Abstract as part of the recruitment process.
