STATUS: Non-Permanent Term, up to 2 years (subject to continued external funding)
HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 hours weekly; 7.5 hours per day, Monday to Friday
PAY RATE: $53.91 per hour (rate under review)
Working in partnership with Lethbridge Police Services and under the direction of the Community Social Development Operations Manager, the Safer Communities Coordinator is responsible for the operational oversight, implementation, and performance management of Safer Communities’ initiatives. The role supports the effective use of funding intended to advance community safety priorities, including prevention and intervention efforts delivered directly by the City of Lethbridge and through community-based partners including the Safer Communities initiative which supports at-risk and justice-involved youth.
The Safer Communities Coordinator plays a key coordination role across internal departments, Lethbridge Police Service (LPS), and community partners. The position leads monitoring, data collection, and reporting processes, supports system operations and compliance, and contributes to strategic planning and continuous improvement to strengthen youth-focused outcomes and community safety.
In this role, you will:
- Guide day-to-day workflows related to activities delivered by the City and through community partners, including but not necessarily limited to the Safer Communities case management and educator services.
- Oversee the integration and operation of systems and processes used to track activities, performance indicators, financial information, and reporting requirements, in collaboration with internal departments.
- Lead the collection, compilation, and analysis of data across multiple systems and databases, to assess program performance and alignment with priority populations and intended community safety outcomes.
- Coordinate workflows related to safer communities’ implementation, performance monitoring, and reporting, ensuring timely, accurate, and complete submissions to funders.
- Act as the liaison between Safer Communities' initiatives and the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) to support program alignment with City procedures and shared objectives.
- Develop and maintain documentation that supports consistent and safe program delivery such as operational guidelines, case management protocols, safe work practices, and safety procedures.
- Contribute to development of long-term strategies for the use of funding that supports Safer Communities' initiatives, ensuring investments are responsive to community needs, emerging trends, and strategic priorities identified by the City and partner funders.
- Prepare briefings, reports and presentations for senior leadership and City Council related to Safer Communities' initiatives, including progress updates, funding allocations, and emerging trends.
- Provide strategic advice and recommendations to leadership regarding gaps, barriers, risks, or inefficiencies in initiative implementation and proposing improvements to strengthen program delivery and outcomes.
- Support long-term planning for the use of Safer Communities funding in alignment with community needs, emerging youth trends, and City and provincial priorities.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant disciplines is required with a focus on social sciences, management, public health, addiction and mental health, crime prevention, etc.
- Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible experience in community safety, social development, human services, or a related field, with demonstrated responsibility for coordinating complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- Standard First Aid and CPR is required.
- Experience working collaboratively with law enforcement, government departments, and community-based organizations, particularly in the delivery of prevention and intervention initiatives for at risk or justice involved youth or other priority populations.
- Demonstrated experience contributing to strategic planning, identifying service gaps or emerging needs, and providing evidence informed recommendations to leadership to improve program effectiveness and community outcomes.
- Experience providing day-to-day leadership, coordination, and functional guidance to staff, including assigning work, supporting performance expectations, and facilitating collaboration in a non-disciplinary environment.
- Experience translating complex reporting into clear, accessible information.
- Program/project management experience.
- Strong data collection, analysis, and reporting skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to meet deadlines and deliverables in a program oversight context.
- Demonstrated evaluation and monitoring skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience working with youth and social services is an asset.
Additional Information:
- This is a grant funded position and is subject to the continued receipt of funding from other orders of government.
- The successful applicant under consideration must have a valid Alberta class 5 driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate auto insurance to provide transportation for programming participants.
- The successful applicant under consideration will be required to complete and pass a Police Information Check, Vulnerable Sector Check and Extended Background Check conducted by Lethbridge Police Service.
