STATUS: Non-Permanent Term (approximately 18 weeks from May 25-September 6, 2026, with the possibility of extension

POSITIONS: Up to two (2) positions available

HOURS OF WORK: 0-37.5 hours per week (work schedule includes days, evenings, and weekends.)

PAY RATE: $30.14 per hour

 

This Museum Attendant position is a visitor-focused role and encompasses three main areas of responsibility that include interpreting, guiding, and facilitating a variety of public engagement services. This includes tours, programs & special events, maintaining public engagement spaces, and facilitating administrative services ranging from gift shop duties, through to admissions, event ticketing, membership, and opening & closing duties. These Attendant duties may extend to both the Museum and Fort Whoop-Up locations.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Respond to public inquiries including answering phones, providing exhibition and collections information, and selling admissions.
  • Sell merchandise, count inventory, and complete cash balancing.
  • Assist facility rental clients to ensure events run smoothly, including set-up and dismantling of event areas.
  • Oversee interpreting and skill-based activities through permanent and temporary exhibitions and interpretive spaces, when applicable.
  • Assist programmers with school and community programs.
  • Assist with the development of content for programs and educational resources.
  • Assist with Fort Whoop-Up animal coordination, gardening, and light cooking (per established regulations).
  • Perform daily/weekly janitorial duties.
  • Attend staff meetings/training as required.

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Post-secondary education and experience in human history and/or museum visitor services, Indigenous studies, education, tourism, public relations, communication arts, or a related program.
  • Current First Aid Certificate is required.
  • Knowledge of regional history is an asset.
  • Past retail and sales experience, including knowledge of POS systems is an asset.
  • Articulate, concise and tactful communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Excellent customer relationship skills.
  • Ability to move chairs, tables, and work with a variety of audio/visual equipment when needed.
  • Fluency with Blackfoot and other languages is a strong asset.

 

Additional Information:

  • Candidates under consideration will be required to successfully pass a Police Information Check (PIC) through the Lethbridge Police Service.
  • Candidates must have a reliable means of transportation to travel between the Museum and Fort Whoop-Up locations.
