Overview

The Stores section of the City’s Purchasing Department, is currently seeking a Warehouse Attendant to join our team in a term capacity. This position provides a variety of assistance and services to our customers regarding our Stores inventories; and will continue to evolve to meet the business demands of our growing organization. STATUS: Non-Permanent Term (approximately 12 months)

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week

PAY RATE: $33.20 per hour


In this role, you will:

  • Meet with our various City customer groups to determine priorities and specifications regarding materials they require.
  • Read and interpret schematic diagrams, manuals, catalogue information, etc.
  • Determine appropriate transportation methods to expedite delivery of materials.
  • Coordinate pickup and delivery of materials with trucking, courier companies and vendors, and prepare bills of lading.
  • Unload, unpack, and inspect materials, including checking packing slips against stock received loads, and move, store, and record the locations of materials within the warehouse, entering information into various databases.
  • Issue or transfer materials to customers or other warehouse locations and indicate part numbers, descriptions, quantities, and codes on Stock Issue & Equipment Repair order sheets.
  • Recommend when inventory levels need to be changed, substitutions made, or new items be stocked.
  • Reconcile discrepancies and damage with vendors, trucking and courier companies, Accounts Payable and procurement staff.
  • Return incorrect stock and obsolete parts.
  • Receive, categorize, and store reusable stock and salvage.
  • Perform stocktaking and cycle counts while investigating and reconciling discrepancies.
  • Complete housekeeping duties to maintain the warehouse in a clean, tidy, and safe condition as well as keep parts catalogues and other reference materials current.
  • Operate materials handling equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Ensure the security of the warehouse and report any safety issues to management.
  • Assist with mailroom and courier duties.
  • Drive a light truck to pick up and deliver materials when required.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED is required.
  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain or other relevant certifications, such as Warehousing, Journeyman Parts Technician, Apprentice Parts Technician, SCMP, SMT or equivalent is considered an asset.
  • At least one year of experience in parts, warehousing, and inventory control.
  • Working familiarity with modern ERP systems including experience with JD Edwards is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of municipal purchasing and requisitioning procedures is a strong asset.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license is required.
  • Valid First Aid certificate is required.
  • Current certifications in Forklift Operator Training, Work Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) are an asset.
  • Experience dealing with suppliers and transportation service providers.
  • Knowledge of mechanical parts, catalogues, distributors, and dealers.
  • Self-directed and motivated, with reliable, consistent customer service that is timely and responsive.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and exercise teamwork while coordinating assigned work within the team
  • Proficient computer skills and familiarity with inventory systems & databases.
  • Proficient record keeping skills.
  • Successful communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Physical strength and agility to meet the demands of the work and successfully carry out duties.

  1. Impaired Driving related offence
  2. Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  3. Criminal Flight from a Peace Officer
  4. Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident
  5. Drive while Disqualified/Prohibited 
  6. Careless Driving

If you are a current City of Lethbridge employee, depending on the circumstances of your current position, you may also be required to provide a five-year Commercial OR Non-Commercial Driver’s Abstract as part of the recruitment process.
