Overview

The Electric Utility has built an Arc/FM GIS based system to support our electrical grid and fiber communication system. We are accepting applications for the term position of GIS Technologist to aid in maintaining, contributing and completing the datasets representing the utility system as the Lethbridge Electric Utility implements the ESRI Utility Network. This work will require intensive use of Spatial Databases, Geometric Networks and a variety of other GIS and development skills.

STATUS: Full Time, Term – up to 12 months

HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 hours per week

PAY RATE: $34.91 per hour

 

In this role, you will: complete work that is considered highly technical and the majority of it will fall under the following areas:

  • Quality Assurance of our datasets. Confirming the validity of our systems through detailed electronic drawings and paper maps
  • ArcGIS/ArcFM data entry and maintenance (Including but not limited to Electrical distribution and fiber networks)
  • Provide excellent customer service, instruction and technical support for users of the Arc/FM system and in-house developed systems and tools
  • Complete analysis of workflows and tools that are currently deployed and contribute to the development, deployment and maintenance of new modern workflows and tools

 

What You Bring to the Table:

You are a resourceful self-starter and enjoy working with highly technical work. Accuracy, time management and efficiency are all factors that are required for success in this position.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Completion of some post-secondary education is required. Preference will be given to those who have completed a minimum of 2 – 3 years of an undergraduate or graduate program in a recognized university or college program, majoring in Engineering Design, GIS or Geomatics Technology
  • The successful candidate will require excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Previous experience would be considered an asset
  • Strong understanding of ESRI’s GIS software, especially ArcMap, ArcGIS Catalog, ArcGIS Enterprise and Networking Extensions
  • An understanding of geometric networks, ArcFM and multi user enterprise Geo-Database would be considered an asset
  • An understanding of surveying, engineering principles, asset management and electrical systems would be an asset
  • Basic understanding of RDBMS scripting, programming and ETL processes
  • Understanding of databases and query languages (particularly Microsoft SQL Server, MS SQL, TSQL)
  • Understanding of python scripting language (as related to geo-processing)
  • Good time management skills
