STATUS: Full Time, Term – up to 4 months
HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week
PAY RATE:
Journeyman Rate is $47.35 per hour
2nd year 75% of Journeyman Rate
3rd year 90% of Journeyman Rate
In this role, you will: be responsible for completing a variety of maintenance, repair, and fabrication tasks, ensuring the safe, reliable operation of a diverse range of City equipment
Complete welding and fabrication tasks to create, repair and maintain equipment and units
· Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols
· Set up and operate welding equipment (SMAW)
· Weld metal components to required specifications
· Cut, grind, and prepare materials for welding
· Ensure proper fit-up and alignment of parts
· Under direction and supervision, support project and operation teams with repair and maintenance tasks
Perform equipment operation and maintenance
· Maintain and clean welding tools and equipment
· Perform basic troubleshooting and minor repairs
· Ensure proper machine settings and safe operation
· Report equipment issues to supervisors
Ensure safety and compliance is kept top of mind and integrated into work practices
· Follow workplace safety procedures and use PPE
· Identify and report hazards or unsafe conditions
· Maintain a clean and organized work area
· Comply with applicable safety and welding regulations
Ensure strong teamwork communication and regular interaction with the Journeyman Welder
· Communicate with supervisors and team members about job progress
· Follow instructions and adapt to project changes
· Assist coworkers when needed to meet production goals
Misc. Project Work
· Other maintenance tasks as assigned
What You Bring to the Table
Qualifications & Experience:
· Must have completed a High School Diploma or equivalent and be actively enrolled in the Welder Apprenticeship Program, managed by Apprenticeship and Industry Training and completed the 1st year of education
· A valid class 5 license and driver’s abstract satisfactory to the City of Lethbridge
· Must have experience completing welding and fabrication creation projects, repair work and maintenance tasks
· Considerable experience with the materials and procedures used in electric welding (SMAW), and gas cutting
· Strong ability to read and interpret information from blueprint drawings and sketches
· Ability to carry out repair and maintenance work while using welding and fabrication methods
· Strong customer service skills to collaboratively work with various customer requests
· Excellent problem-solving skills
· The physical ability to lift and maneuver material and work sitting, laying on the ground or in difficult to access spaces is required

• Within the preceding three years any Criminal Code or Provincial driving conviction including:
a. Impaired Driving related offence
b. Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
c. Criminal Flight from a Peace Officer
d. Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident
e. Drive while Disqualified/Prohibited
f. Careless Driving
