HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 hours per week (work may include occasional evenings or weekends)

PAY RATE: $39.36 per hour

 

The Volunteer and Resource Development Specialist position plays a key role in the overall success of the museum’s operations.  The role has three main areas of responsibilities that include the management of the institution’s volunteer program across both the Galt Museum & Archives and Fort Whoop-Up, leading fund development initiatives to meet operational budget requirements, including grant applications, reporting, annual fundraising campaigns, and ongoing donor relationships management, and being the primary institutional liaison for the museum’s arms-length fund raising non-profit society, the Friends of the Sir Alexander Galt Museum & Archives. The ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in furthering the museum’s mission, vision, and values. 

 

In this role, you will:

  • Coordinate the volunteer services program, including policy and procedure development, volunteer recruitment as per functional area requirements, volunteer training facilitation, volunteer recording, volunteer program evaluation and reporting.
  • Coordinate volunteer appreciation initiatives and special events.
  • Coordinate volunteer and related logistics of ako’kaatsin camp during July/August in collaboration with the museum leadership team.
  • Research, and facilitate/write grant, foundation, and sponsorship applications, ensuring achievement of the operational budget and functional area requirements.
  • Coordinate team members in development, submission, implementation, monitoring and reporting out of fund development initiatives.
  • Coordinate annual giving initiatives.
  • Track and report out on fund/resource development initiatives as required.
  • Research and identify potential monetary and gifts-in-kind donors.
  • Cultivate donor relationships.
  • Monitor, track, and report out on donor relationships and trends as required.
  • Act as primary institutional liaison with the Friends of the Sir Alexander Galt Museum & Archives “Friends”.
  • Attend, contribute, and report on institutional activities at Friends’ monthly board meetings and annual general meetings.
  • Provide recommendations and assist with the facilitation of Friends’ fund development activities.
  • In collaboration with the Friends, report out on activities as required.
  • Monitor operational and special event budgets for each operational area.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations to supervisors on capital, operational, and special events budgets.

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 2+ years of post-secondary education in fund development, marketing, management, administration or a related field.
  • Demonstrable experience in museum/cultural institution volunteer program management.
  • Demonstrable experience and success in grant writing, sponsorship coordination, and donor relationship management within a cultural, educational, and/or non-profit institution.
  • Articulate, concise and tactful communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Open minded and flexible to change as job tasks vary considerably on a daily basis.
  • Experience with community-focused non-profit/society board governance and a diverse range of community groups is an asset.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset.
  • Knowledge of regional history and museum best-practice is an asset.
  • Class 5 driver’s license with a reliable means of transportation is preferred.

  • Candidates under consideration will be required to successfully pass a Police Information Check (PIC) through the Lethbridge Police Service.
