Overview

The City of Lethbridge, Recreation and Culture Department, is accepting applications for  two (2) non-permanent, 0-40 hours per week positions of Arena Caretaker / Relief Recreation Operator.

STATUS: Seasonal

HOURS OF WORK: 0-40 hours per week; shift work required including days, evenings, and weekends

PAY RATE: Recreation Operator - $41.35 per hour

                  Arena Caretaker - $32.43 per hour

 

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain a safe, clean and functional facility for various user groups.
  • Perform general janitorial duties including cleaning floors, bathrooms, showers, lobbies, and bleacher areas.
  • Complete operational recording keeping.
  • Address public inquiries and concerns while ensuring that facility rules are followed
  • Maintain artificial ice surfaces and refrigeration equipment.
  • Complete minor facility and equipment repair as required by the Recreation Operator on duty.
  • Perform routine safety and maintenance checks of facilities and equipment including pumps, HVAC units, and furnaces.
  • Maintain positive relationships with contractors, community groups, and building patrons.
  • Assist with setting up special events for user groups as required.

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Level I Arena Operator certification is required.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.
  • Level II Arena Operator certification is an asset.
  • Pool Operator Level I or Level II certification is an asset.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license is required.
  • Operational experience with ice resurfacing equipment.
  • Experience with general custodial work and equipment including floor scrubbers, hand tools, and equipment used for repairs and facility maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude to complete routine service checks, troubleshoot issues and perform minor repairs on equipment.
  • Ability to work on a team or independently with limited supervision.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with the public.
  • Ability to carry out duties based upon oral and/or written instructions.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate well with other team members to ensure continuity of quality public service.
  • Knowledge of facility policies and rules is an asset.

 

Additional Information:

  • Successful candidates must be physically able to perform duties in an environment where temperatures and noise levels can fluctuate.

  • Within the preceding three years any Criminal Code or Provincial driving conviction including:
  1. Impaired Driving related offence
  2. Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  3. Criminal Flight from a Peace Officer
  4. Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident
  5. Drive while Disqualified/Prohibited
  6. Careless Driving
