The Transportation Department currently has an opening for a permanent Traffic Signal & Lighting Engineer.

STATUS: Full Time, Permanent
HOURS OF WORK: 8 hours per day, Monday to Friday, with every third Friday or Monday off
In this role, you will: have a variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to, reviewing design and traffic analysis support for intersections and roadway projects, understanding traffic impact assessments, traffic studies and reviews of TIS submitted by consultants. This role also undertakes traffic safety analysis and uses traffic collision and traffic counts database to develop solutions to traffic signal upgrades aimed at reducing collisions and improving overall network performance. The Traffic Signal & Lighting Engineer manages traffic & lighting engineering/roadway and intersection improvement projects. A fundamental component of this position is coordinating with and maintaining positive, productive relationships with internal and external agencies, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and the public through ongoing engagement and communication.

Qualifications & Experience:
· Completion of a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering/Transportation Engineering
· Must be a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or have eligibility for membership
· A minimum of five (5) years experience and knowledge of engineering principles and practices relating to traffic engineering analysis and design, transportation planning, roadway geometric design, traffic signal design, traffic data analysis and traffic safety
· Knowledge and experience in traffic signal controls, including using traffic signal controllers, is preferred
· Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft products including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access or other database applications and the ability to work with GIS and AutoCAD
· Excellent knowledge and experience in traffic analysis and signal design software Synchro/Sim Traffic
· Ability to research, analyze, estimate and present recommendations both orally and in writing for a variety of engineering projects to various audiences
· Ability to work independently and focus on priorities among multiple assignments while maintaining effective working relationships with staff and the public
· Ability to project manage both signal and lighting projects
· Ability to effectively communicate in various ways/methods (verbally, reports, e-mail etc.) to many audiences

Annual salary range for this position will be $99,567.00 - $124,429.50, commensurate with experience.
