Overview

The City of Lethbridge Waste and Environment department is accepting applications for up to two (2) term positions of Garbage Truck Driver IV.

STATUS: Full Time, Term – up to 10 months

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week

PAY RATE: $36.61 per hour

 

In this role, you will: collect garbage, recycling, and organics from residential and commercial customers. You will be required to operate various heavy equipment, including manually loaded 1-ton or 3-ton single-axle garbage trucks, 5-ton tandem axle trucks, or an automated garbage truck on a specified route.  This involves strenuous physical labour loading and unloading various waste items, including large furniture and appliances. You may be required to explain bylaws and policies affecting waste collection to customers. You will be required to complete detailed record keeping related to the work, including the use of an onboard electronic work management system. This position also is also expected to perform daily maintenance on trucks, as well as periodically complete minor repairs, as needed. You will perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience:

·       Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent  

·       Must be able to adhere to strict schedules and route assignments and be familiar with waste collection bylaws and policies

·       A valid class 3Q license is required along with a Driver’s Abstract satisfactory to the City of Lethbridge 

·       Demonstrated customer service skills

·       Experience operating various waste collection vehicles used by the department or other heavy equipment will be an asset

·       Must be able to perform minor maintenance and assist in diagnosing problems

·       Must have the ability to perform heavy manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions

The Driver’s Abstract is to be obtained within 30 calendar days of the date of offer and applicants will be responsible for the cost of obtaining the Abstract. If you do not submit an Abstract, or the Abstract shows 6 or more demerits or includes any of the unacceptable driving items listed below, your offer of employment may be rescinded. The City of Lethbridge reserves the right to determine what is a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract.

 

An unacceptable driving record includes, but is not limited to: 

• A record of any suspension of Operator’s License within the preceding three years which is related to a driving offence. 

• An overall driving history that reflects poor driving behavior, will be determined at the discretion of the City. 

• Within the preceding three years any Criminal Code or Provincial driving conviction including: 

a. Impaired Driving related offence 

b. Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle 

. Criminal Flight from a Peace Officer 

d. Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident 

e. Drive while Disqualified/Prohibited 

f. Careless Driving
