Overview

The City of Lethbridge, Transportation Operations Department is accepting applications for up to three (3) seasonal term positions of Labourer II.  We are looking for results-oriented individuals who are committed to providing exemplary public service.

STATUS: Seasonal Term  

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week, night and weekend work may be required

PAY RATE: $23.63 per hour

 

In this role, you will: be a valued part of our Transportation Operations team, you will get to be involved in a variety of streets and roads related duties.  Under the direction of our foreman or coordinator, you will have the opportunity to be involved in all labour related aspects of our work!  Your duties will include (but not limited to): asphalt raking/shovelling, tool clean-up and traffic sign set-up.

What You Bring to the Table

Qualifications & Experience:

·       Must have completed a high school diploma or equivalent 

·       A valid class 5 license is required and a Drivers Abstract that is satisfactory to the City of Lethbridge

·       Must have the ability to work night and weekend shifts as assigned

·       Previous related experience in Transportation Operations environment or outside labourer setting will be considered an asset

·       Experience in the safe and proficient operation of tools and equipment for the position

·       Applicants must be able to deal tactfully and diplomatically with the public

·       Good communication and teamwork skills are necessary to carry out duties based upon oral and/or written instructions

·       Ability to work independently with minimal direction within a team setting

·       Physical ability and stamina to perform heavy manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions is critical

The Driver’s Abstract is to be obtained within 30 calendar days of the date of offer and applicants will be responsible for the cost of obtaining the Abstract. If you do not submit an Abstract, or the Abstract shows 6 or more demerits or includes any of the unacceptable driving items listed below, your offer of employment may be rescinded. The City of Lethbridge reserves the right to determine what is a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract.

 

An unacceptable driving record includes, but is not limited to: 

• A record of any suspension of Operator’s License within the preceding three years which is related to a driving offence. 

• An overall driving history that reflects poor driving behavior, will be determined at the discretion of the City. 

• Within the preceding three years any Criminal Code or Provincial driving conviction including: 

a. Impaired Driving related offence 

b. Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle 

c. Criminal Flight from a Peace Officer 

d. Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident 

e. Drive while Disqualified/Prohibited 

f. Careless Driving
