Overview
The Public Operations Department, Water and Wastewater Section, is accepting applications from qualified individuals for up to two (2) term relief positions of Customer Serviceman I in the department’s Meter shop.
The Customer Serviceman plays a frontline role in ensuring that all aspects of water meter functions for residential and commercial service operate effectively and efficiently. This position works as support to all functions of the meter shop and performs other related duties as required.

STATUS: Term, Relief (up to 20 months)
HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week
PAY RATE: $30.14 per hour
In this role, you will:
· Read water meters on assigned routes and record readings
· Disassemble old meters for recycling
· Complete Water Meter data entry so accounts and files are updated
· Provide information as appropriate and tactfully respond to resident inquiries and complaints
· Provide Support to the Customer Serviceman II on the Trouble Truck
· Assist in locating, operating, and repairing curb stands
· Thaw frozen lines
· Install temporary water supply lines
· Perform manual labour in the meter shop as required
· Investigate water-related customer complaints and inquiries
Qualifications & Experience:
· High school diploma or equivalent GED required
· Level II certification in Water Distribution and/or Level II certification in Wastewater Collection is an asset
· Working knowledge of Meter Shop operations, including experience in performing locates required
· Broad understanding of the operation of water distribution and wastewater collection system
· Plumbing knowledge and/or experience is an asset
· Physical strength and dexterity to perform work in all types of weather from extreme heat to extreme cold, as well as damp and wet conditions
· Valid class 5 driver’s license required
· Ability to work independently
· Excellent customer service and communication skills in dealing with the public, sometimes under difficult circumstances
· Team player with the willingness to help wherever required within the meter shop

The City of Lethbridge reserves the right to determine what is a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract.
An unacceptable driving record includes, but is not limited to:
• A record of any suspension of Operator’s License within the preceding three years which is related to a driving offence.
• An overall driving history that reflects poor driving behavior, will be determined at the discretion of the City.
• Within the preceding three years any Criminal Code or Provincial driving conviction including:
a. Impaired Driving related offence
b. Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
c. Criminal Flight from a Peace Officer
d. Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident
e. Drive while Disqualified/Prohibited
f. Careless Driving
