Water & Wastewater Operations has a seasonal term opportunity for a qualified Pipelayer. The Pipelayer position plays an important role in ensuring that sewer and water main services are provided to citizens and businesses within the Lethbridge community.

STATUS: Seasonal

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week

PAY RATE: $33.20 per hour

In this role, you will:

• Perform a variety of work in the installation and repair of sewer and water main services
• Pick up parts and safety cages
• Set up road closures and drive the service truck
• Provide relief for the Foreman as required
• Other related duties which include relaying and directing work of labourers

Qualifications & Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent GED required
• Preference will be given to candidates who possess certification from Alberta Environment in Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection or demonstrate they are currently working towards this certification
• Minimum of 1 years’ experience working knowledge of the procedures, materials, and equipment used in the installation and maintenance of sewer, water mains and related services is required
• Valid class 5 Driver’s license with Q endorsement is required
• Class 3Q driver’s license is an asset.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches and diagrams, and be able to understand line and grade markers
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team setting
• Physical ability to perform extensive manual labour in all types of weather from extreme heat to extreme cold, as well as damp and wet conditions

• Record of any suspension of Operator’s License within the preceding three years which is related to a driving offence.
• An overall driving history that reflects poor driving behavior, will be determined at the discretion of the City.
• Within the preceding three years any Criminal Code or Provincial driving conviction including:

1. Impaired Driving related offence
2. Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
3. Criminal Flight from a Peace Officer
4. Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident
5. Drive while Disqualified/Prohibited
6. Careless Driving
