The City of Lethbridge Public Operations Transportation team is accepting applications for multiple winter seasonal term positions of Machine Operator III – Skid Steer Loader. The Machine Operator III supports winter snow and ice control operations, including the clearing and maintenance of pathways, crosswalks, accessibility routes and other Transportation Operations areas.

STATUS: Seasonal, up to 6 months

HOURS OF WORK: 0 – 40 hours per week

PAY RATE: $30.14 per hour

 

In this role, you will:

·         Safely and proficiently operate a skid steer loader, trucks up to 3-ton and other assigned equipment.

·         Perform snow and ice control on pathways, bike lanes, crosswalks, accessibility routes and other assigned areas.

·         Perform manual labour associated with winter maintenance activities.

·         Perform routine inspections, minor servicing and maintenance of assigned equipment.

·         Work safely around pedestrians, vehicles, infrastructure and other equipment.

·         Perform other Transportation Operations-related duties as required.

 

What You Bring to the Table:

Qualifications & Experience:

·         Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).

·         Applicants must have a valid class 5 license.

·         Q endorsement (air brake) is preferred.

·         Experience safely operating skid steer loaders and other related equipment.

·         Working knowledge of practices, methods, materials and hand tools used in snow and ice control and winter operations.

·         Ability to perform minor equipment maintenance to support safe and efficient operation.

·         Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work within a team environment.

·         Physical ability to perform heavy manual labour for extended periods in varying winter weather conditions.

·         Previous winter operations experience is preferred.

·         The successful applicant must have the ability to work shift work.

An unacceptable driving record includes, but is not limited to: 

• A record of any suspension of Operator’s License within the preceding three years which is related to a driving offence. 

• An overall driving history that reflects poor driving behavior, will be determined at the discretion of the City. 

• Within the preceding three years any Criminal Code or Provincial driving conviction including: 

a. Impaired Driving related offence 

b. Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle 

c. Criminal Flight from a Peace Officer 

d. Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident 

e. Drive while Disqualified/Prohibited 

f. Careless Driving
