Overview

The City of Lethbridge, Galt Museum and Archives, is accepting applications for a non-permanent, term position of Museum Collections Assistant.

STATUS: Non-Permanent Term (up to 20 weeks)

HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 hours per week

PAY RATE: $32.43 per hour (rate under review)

 

The Museum Collection Assistant supports the Museum’s digital collections initiatives by enhancing the accessibility and user experience of its cultural object database. Working under the direction of the Museum Collection Technician, this role helps enrich individual object records through the inclusion of photographs, enabling researchers, staff, and the public to better engage with the Museum’s collections.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Photograph museum objects and add photo file details to the Museum’s object database.
  • Inventory and handle project-assigned cultural items.
  • Reconcile museum objects against individually assigned location codes in the database.

We seek an enthusiastic, independent individual, possessing cultural object skills and knowledge to fill a non-permanent opportunity supported by the Young Canada Works (YCW) Building Careers in Heritage program. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to build their career in the museum field.

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, Fine Arts, Cultural Resource Management, or a related field is required. Candidates must be graduates of a recognized college or university and hold a post-secondary credential.
  • Knowledge and application of standard Museum or Archival practices, artifact cataloguing, and studio photography is a strong asset.
  • Experience with data entry, Excel, museum database software, and photography software.
  • Strong time management and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment while coordinating volunteers.
