Overview
The City of Lethbridge Recreation & Culture department is accepting applications for up to three (3) seasonal term positions of Recreation Operator to work at various City of Lethbridge arenas.

STATUS: Seasonal
HOURS OF WORK: 0-40 hours per week; day, evening, and weekend shift work required
POSITIONS: up to 3 positions available
PAY RATE: $41.35 per hour
In this role, you will:
- Maintain a safe, clean, and functional facility for various user groups.
- Perform general janitorial duties including cleaning floors, bathrooms, showers, lobbies, and bleacher areas as required.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of all building mechanical systems.
- Ensure maintenance records, files and documentation are maintained accurately.
- Address public inquiries and concerns while ensuring that facility rules are followed.
- Maintain artificial ice surfaces and refrigeration equipment.
- Assist staff in equipment diagnosis and provide technical support.
- Complete minor facility and equipment repairs as required.
- Perform scheduled, preventive, routine, and emergency maintenance.
- Perform routine safety and maintenance checks of facilities and equipment including pumps, HVAC units, and furnaces.
- Maintain positive relationships with contractors, community groups, and building patrons.
- Assist with setting up special events for user groups as required.

Qualifications & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid class 5 driver’s license is required.
- Level I Arena Operator certification is required.
- Knowledge of City of Lethbridge facility policies and rules is an asset.
- Level II Arena Operator certification is an asset.
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.
- Operational experience with ice resurfacing equipment.
- Experience with general custodial work and equipment including floor scrubbers, hand tools, and equipment used for repairs and facility maintenance.
- Strong mechanical aptitude to complete routine service checks, troubleshoot issues and perform minor repairs on equipment.
- Ability to work on a team or independently with limited supervision.
- Good communication skills with the ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with the public.
- Ability to carry out duties based upon oral and/or written instructions.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate well with other team members to ensure continuity of quality public service.
Additional Information:
Successful candidates must be physically able to perform duties in an environment where temperatures and noise levels can fluctuate.

The City of Lethbridge reserves the right to determine what is a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract.
An unacceptable driving record includes, but is not limited to:
- A record of any suspension of Operator’s License within the preceding three years which is related to a driving offence.
- An overall driving history that reflects poor driving behavior, will be determined at the discretion of the City.
- Within the preceding three years any Criminal Code or Provincial driving conviction including:
- Impaired Driving related offence
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Criminal Flight from a Peace Officer
- Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident
- Drive while Disqualified/Prohibited
- Careless Driving
