Water Treatment Plant Operator - Term

The Water Treatment Plant is currently accepting applications for a full-time term Water Treatment Plant Operator.

STATUS: Full-time, Term – up to 24 months

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week

PAY RATE: $40.96 - $46.66 per hour, dependent on certification level

 

In this role, you will:

• Operate and control Water Treatment Plant processes to ensure a safe and reliable water supply for City residents and regional customers.
• Perform laboratory water analysis and monitor water quality to support regulatory and operational requirements.
• Monitor and adjust chemical addition and treatment processes as required.
• Maintain accurate plant records, operating logs, data and compliance documentation.
• Monitor plant equipment, processes and storage facilities and identify potential operational issues.
• Troubleshoot treatment processes and equipment to support safe and effective plant operations.
• Monitor and control industrial equipment using SCADA systems.
• Assist skilled trades with preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment, pumps, chemical systems and plant facilities.
• Work safely with pumps, piping systems, chemicals, tools and other equipment used in potable water treatment.
• Perform physical tasks associated with plant operations, including heavy lifting and accessing work areas using ladders and scaffolding.
• Work rotating and replacement shifts as required.

 

What You Bring to the Table

Qualifications & Experience:

• A valid Alberta Environment Water Treatment Level II Certification, at minimum. Higher-level certifications would be considered an asset.
• Knowledge of standard work practices, methods, chemicals and equipment used in potable water treatment.
• Previous laboratory experience with the ability to follow and maintain safe work practices.
• Previous experience monitoring and controlling industrial equipment using SCADA systems.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of pumps and piping systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to perform equipment maintenance safely and effectively.
• Accurate record-keeping and reporting skills with strong attention to detail.
• Proficient computer skills for data entry and compliance reporting.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including heavy lifting and accessing work areas using ladders and scaffolding.
• Experience using a variety of tools.
• Trade experience would be considered an asset.
• A valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
• Ability to work rotating and replacement shifts.
