The City of Lethbridge Transportation Department is seeking a qualified Traffic Signal Electrician to join the Signals and Street Lights team.
This position supports the construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of the City’s traffic signal, rail signal, roadway lighting, and parks lighting systems. The successful candidate will work with a variety of electrical, traffic signal, controller, and detection systems while supporting the safe and reliable operation of transportation infrastructure throughout the community.

STATUS: Permanent, Full-time
HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week
PAY RATE: $52.92 – $56.83 per hour, based on related experience and IMSA certification level
In this role, you will:
· Participate in the construction, installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of the City’s traffic signal system.
· Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on traffic signal equipment and components.
· Maintain accurate maintenance and service records.
· Work with traffic signal controllers, detection systems, and related electrical equipment.
· Maintain and repair components of railroad crossing signal systems on City-owned rail spur lines.
· Maintain and repair roadway and parks lighting systems.
· Troubleshoot electrical and traffic signal system issues and complete required repairs.
· Participate in tailgate safety meetings and follow all City safety policies and procedures.
· Participate in the department’s after-hours on-call service for emergencies involving traffic signal and rail signal systems.
· Perform other related duties associated with Signals and Street Lights operations as assigned.
What You Bring to the Table:
Qualifications & Experience:
· Journeyman Electrician certification in accordance with the Tradesman Qualification Act of Alberta.
· Experience with traffic signals, rail signals, street lighting, or related electrical systems would be considered an asset.
· Completion of International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) training related to traffic signal system design, operation, maintenance, or inspection would be considered an asset.
· Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
· Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to safely perform electrical maintenance and repair work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
· Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
· Ability to participate in after-hours on-call rotation for traffic signal and rail signal emergencies.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Commitment to workplace safety and providing quality public service.
